Therapy For Sleep
Sleep & Insomnia.
Not enough, too much or are your sleep patterns broken?
I’ve included sleep in The Mind and Body Guide as it’s something I’m often asked about. Issues with sleep are often accompanied by problems like pain, depression, anxiety or long-term health conditions.
Sleep is your body’s natural reset for brain and body health. The harm to our wellbeing when we don’t get enough sleep has been the subject of much research over the last two decades. It is now widely accepted that plentiful sleep is vital for a healthy mind and body.
When we don’t get enough sleep, it can start consuming us with worry. It can also be difficult knowing where to start solving this problem. You might have tried various short-term fixes which haven’t really helped. I’d ask you this: is it just ‘sleep’ you are trying to fix? Or could you also consider where your issues with sleep really started?
It’s true there are certain sleep-related medical conditions like Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease (COPD) or sleep Apnoea. I urge you to speak to your General Practitioner to assess whether there might be a medical condition behind your issues with sleeping.
If that’s not the case, it’s time to start looking at your sleep problem differently. We will think about all the other aspects of your life. Your worries and fears. What your insomnia means to you and how it impacts on your life. Then, together, we will make a realistic plan.
