Emotional charge running out?

By The Mind - Body Guide
Fatigue is often experienced alongside chronic illness and long-term conditions such as Long-COVID and fibromyalgia. It’s difficult to explain to others and to fathom out for yourself, especially as you might have some days where your ‘battery’ has more charge than others.

I hope you can relate to the idea of a battery running out of charge. It makes me think of my iPhone which can suddenly drop from over 40% one minute to under 10% the next. And I haven’t even used it! It’s so frustrating because I really needed that charge to last for the day.

It’s similar to living with fatigue: you can wake up one day with energy, but then the smallest of task drains it all away. Regaining that charge then feels so difficult.

Some of the thoughts that cross your mind might be: how can I possibly be tired when I’ve literally done nothing? Or at least a fraction of what I used to do? It’s completely ridiculous that I have no energy. People will think I’m pathetic.

You struggle to concentrate on conversations or answer texts and emails. The thought of going out with friends again is just way too much. Even concentrating on an episode of your favourite TV programme can be a struggle.

Fatigue like this is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. So, be kind and gentle to yourself and show self-compassion. Think how you would be with a friend experiencing the same as you. Would you not show compassion to them?

And if you are at the point where you would like to reach out and speak to me, please do. You can book in for an initial short conversation about how I can help you with the difficulties you are facing. I can’t offer an instant fix for your long-term fatigue, but I can promise that we’ll explore it, and how it affects you, in depth. By learning about long-term fatigue, you can begin to accept it and understand how to manage it in a better way. Knowledge is power and having that confidence while learning new skills for living with long-term fatigue can be life changing.

I have a wealth of skills and experience helping people with long-term health problems and will always consider the whole of you in therapy.

As The Mind & Body Guide, my aim is to explore these connections to help you gain insight and awareness. This could be looking at present problems or those that are more deeply seated: events that have affected you in the past. Things that you have been told and experienced which have shaped who you are now.

My approach to therapy is to help you to understand yourself mentally and physically. Then you can start moving forward at a pace which respects the whole of you.
